Developer Advocate

Apply now

Remote · Up to $ 160K · Based on US East coast or Europe

At Tinybird, we enable developers and data teams to harness the power of real-time data and quickly build data pipelines and data products. With Tinybird, you can ingest multiple sources of data at scale, query and shape it using the 100% pure SQL you already know and love, and publish the results as low-latency, high-concurrency APIs that you consume in your applications. Developers can create fast APIs, faster. What used to take hours and days now only takes minutes. Tinybird is the indispensable tool that data engineers and software developers have been waiting for.

Our founding team has deep expertise building cloud and data intensive products serving organizations all over the world, and we are backed by great team members and investors who have built or are building some of the most relevant developer tools out there (including the Founders of GitHub, Algolia, and Vercel, amongst others).

Being a remote-first company with over 60 birdies from different nationalities, we believe our strength lies in cultivating a diverse environment. Everyone at Tinybird plays a role in forming and executing our strategy, and we truly believe our globally diverse workforce is the key to unlocking the most value for our customers.

About Tinybird

Tinybird is the data platform that helps data engineering teams address complex real-time, operational, and user-facing analytics challenges at any scale. It simplifies the process of importing data from various sources, allowing you to use SQL for data manipulation—such as filtering, aggregating, and joining—and then publish the results as low-latency, high-concurrency RESTful API endpoints or as sinks into downstream systems.

We place a premium on delivering an exemplary developer experience and, as such, are seeking an experienced Developer Advocate who is passionate about finding creative and elegant ways to teach the community about complex data engineering problems and their solutions.

This role is based in the US or EU time zones.

About the role

If you’re excited about:

  • Helping data engineers find resourceful and creative ways to solve their most pressing problems…
  • Creating engaging and interesting content that teaches data engineers about complex topics…
  • Becoming a valued, respected, and oft-cited member of the data engineering community…
  • Working with people who value speed, empathy, and teamwork…

Then this is your chance to join a fast-growing, early-stage, and well-funded startup determined to shape the future of data engineering.

What you’ll do in this role

You will be responsible for creating content, speaking at events, and representing Tinybird in the data engineering community. You will bring your considerable data engineering experience not only to promote Tinybird, but to support the data engineering discipline itself. You will report to the Head of Developer Relations and work closely with marketing, sales, and the executive team.

  • Build effective content at a rapid clip. Our content is technically deep, but written and recorded in an accessible, friendly manner. We aren’t focused on 100-level content, rather we aim to deliver 300- and 400-level material. Rarely will someone tell you what content to write or record. We will count on you to understand the customer, analyze the performance of your content, and know what to build next.
  • Execute exemplary events. Event marketing is a core component of our go-to-market strategy. You will submit CFPs, speak at events, and support our overall event presence. Expect about 30% travel in this role, across both the United States and Europe.
  • Represent Tinybird in the data engineering community. Ideally, you are already well-known among data engineers. Perhaps you are a serial Redditor, maybe you write thoughtful posts on your blog. However you plan to build your profile, we need you to represent yourself and Tinybird respectfully and, in the process, evangelize Tinybird.
  • Advocate for the customer. In building content, writing demos, and delivering talks, you will interact quite a bit with the product and customers. You will have real-world knowledge of how Tinybird is used. We’re a startup, and we have a lot to learn. We are counting on you to represent our customers with our product team and use your background and authority to effect change in our product direction.

That sounds like a lot, and it is. We’re an early-stage startup, and pace and quality of execution are paramount to our success. We understand that startups aren’t for everyone, and that’s okay. As we say at Tinybird: Speed Wins. We don’t dither in endless meetings. We execute, analyze our performance, and adjust going forward.

Requirements for this role

  • 5+ years of experience as a data engineer
  • 2+ years of experience in a customer-facing role, such as Developer Advocacy, Sales Engineering, or Customer Success
  • 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment
  • Proven, prolific technical content development experience (please provide examples in the field below)
  • Strong business acumen, with thoughts and opinions on where the data engineering discipline needs to evolve and grow
  • Passion for developers, data engineers, and nerd culture
  • An unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Comfort in a remote-first environment…we all work our local hours, so asynchronous communication and fast, independent execution are critical

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) are essential to building an effective organization. Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every one of the qualifications in a job description. Our top priority is finding the best candidate for the job. If you are interested in the position, we encourage you to apply, even if you don’t believe you meet every one of the qualifications listed in this posting.
