We’re excited to share a major revamp of Tinybird Explorations, our conversational user interface to analyze your data (as well as Tinybird's service data) with natural language.
Explorations now puts chat front and center, brings Time Series back as a first-class citizen, and restores Playgrounds (now called Free queries) when you'd rather use raw SQL. Under the hood, it uses Tinybird’s AI tools to break down tasks, analyze your data sources and pipes, and generate exactly the SQL you intended — so you get answers, not just queries.
Why we revamped Explorations
- Chat-first, answer-first: The empty state invited natural language, but the response wasn’t truly conversational. We’ve redesigned the flow so you ask in natural language and get a natural language answer — with clear results and the SQL you can trust.
- Time Series, front and center: Trends, anomalies, seasonality — Time Series is where many product and ops insights surface. We brought it back to the front so you can create and adjust Time Series faster, with better defaults and a streamlined builder.
- Free queries are back: Sometimes you just want raw SQL. Free queries are restored, familiar to anyone who loved our classic Playgrounds.
What’s new
In the completely redesigned experience you will find:
- Chat takes the lead: Ask questions in natural language, inspect schemas across your data sources, query pipes and Tinybird service data sources, and produce targeted SQL to find the answers you are looking for.
- Full-screen Edit mode: Focus on a single query with a dedicated context chat, or build a Time Series via chat or a point-and-click GUI builder.
- Switch modes anytime: Mid-conversation, jump into a Time Series or a Free query without losing context.
- Explicit references with @: Use
@
to reference datasources or pipes directly in chat (e.g.,@events
,@sessions_by_country
). - Natural language titles: Chat Explorations, Time Series, and Free queries automatically get human-friendly titles you can reference elsewhere in your exploration.
- Export to CSV: One click to export results for sharing or downstream analysis.
- Related questions: Keep going with structured follow-ups derived from the initial response.
See it in action
Start with a question in chat, turn it into a Time Series to spot trends, then open the GUI builder or raw SQL when you need more control. Mix and match modes in the same flow.
Built for speed. Now also with ClickHouse System Tables
All real-time platforms need to be fast. The difference is how fast they make you. Explorations focuses on helping anyone on the team get answers over your data: shorter loops, clearer answers, fewer tabs, more flow.
And for the engineers building with Tinybird, Explorations can be a great asset to go and analyze the underlying ClickHouse's System tables which are available since we released the ability to directly query the underlying ClickHouse database.
Get started
Open Explorations in your Tinybird workspace and ask your first question. Use @
to point at key datasources and pipes, switch to Time Series when you see a trend, and drop into a Free query when you want absolute control.
